Endometriosis Awareness Through Documentary Film

"not the rule, PERIOD", a feature-length
documentary on endometriosis

As part of my work in endometriosis awareness and patient education, I was production lead and music supervisor for the feature-length documentary “not the rule, PERIOD”. Through intimate interviews, personal stories, and explanations from endometriosis experts, the documentary addresses the often long and difficult path to diagnosis, chronic pain, and the systemic under-recognition of the disease. It explores the challenges faced by women with endometriosis, and the importance of early education, intervention, and support. My role involved coordinating the film’s development and narrative coherence in close collaboration with the participating team of engaged women.

Documentary Film

"nicht die regel" ("not the rule PERIOD") was funded through crowdfunding and produced by 9 women who are affected themselves. It is frequently referenced by patients and support groups as a starting point for understanding symptoms, diagnosis delays, and lived impact.

The project originated as a non-profit Austrian association dedicated to endometriosis awareness and education across Europe. Today, team members continue to volunteer their time, organizing screenings and discussions in collaboration with patient groups, social institutions, and educational settings.
